At the Gateway Learning Community we believe that everyone is a leader regardless of their role or responsibility. Our philosophy of “leadership at every level” encourages staff to make decisions which impact positively on students, each other and the wider organisation. We believe passionately in servant leadership where the needs of others come first and where our people develop and perform as highly as possible.

From students to staff, right across our Academies, you will see leadership in action each and every day; we challenge the norms and disrupt traditional thinking. We believe that cognitive diversity within our leadership teams creates unique and disparate viewpoints and fits our values of ‘All Different, All Equal’.

We want our leaders to be pioneers in their field, to defy conventional wisdom and to think big.

Challenges of school leadership

Leadership and school culture

Kevin Sadler GLC

CEO Kevin Sadler takes inspiration from child psychologist and psychotherapist Haim Ginott:

“I’ve come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It’s my personal approach that creates the daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture, or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humour, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated, and a child humanised or de-humanised”.
